ok but how much do you thread in on the stop? is it just to stop the piston from completing the stroke? and same on the reverse?

Install the stop, CAREFULLY turn the engine until the piston GENTLY touches the stop and stops. Pretty simple to find TDC with a piston stop.Amazing, I said the same thing until I popped #1 Piston TDC and looked at the distributor and mark on crank, its on the other side, I replaced the crank harmonic balancer, easy job 2.5 off and on, nothing to pull off but the belt and crank belt pulley then the balancer, easy job with the right tools, good luck. I am trying to find out what might be causing my Fergi 35, A3-152 to spit out thin black liquid (oil I think)from the exhaust manifold, the valves and sleaves seem ok and there doesn`t appear to be much wear on the piston liners, haven`t gone any further yet.

C7 and C11 Cat engines have been commonly used in motorhomes, so don't worry about them.
